Our Story

Our story started like a mustard seed — small, bold, and bound to come up in conversations about faith.

The Inside Track Career Services story started in 2008, when founder Angela M. Zachary got her first job as a human resources intern at one of the busiest hotels in her hometown of Atlanta, Georgia.

At just 18 years old, she was shaking in her boots on that first day of work. But what began as a small summer internship grew into a lifelong commitment to the humans in human resources.

Emboldened by her love for people at work, Angela took a position analyzing jobs and pay systems. She quickly learned the first rule of this line of work: protect the system.

That was until she stood face-to-face with the system's "collateral damage": an employee — a human — driven to tears because a system they didn't understand had won again. That moment taught Angela a new rule to live by: use the system but protect the employees.

Despite what we see in the workforce today, our story and our message are about faith. Faith in the workforce, faith in the partnerships we build, and yes — faith in a system that works.

Our Motivation

Everybody's got a reason. We've got three.

Grandma Scott

Grandma Scott — Angela's grandmother — started her career in 1960, at an industrial laundry company in Atlanta, Georgia. In a tin building that was scorching every summer and freezing every winter, she ironed, steamed, and folded linens for some of the most profitable companies in the state. She earned less than $5 an hour, with virtually no time off.

When she retired after 33 years on the job, she received a payout of $300 — less than $10 for every year worked.

We work so that today's workforce can experience a world where their labor is valued as much as their contributions are.

Frances Perkins

Frances Perkins was the longest-serving U.S. Secretary of Labor and the first woman to serve on a U.S. presidential cabinet. As Secretary — during the Great Depression, no less — Frances took on industry titans to establish worker protections we enjoy today, such as child labor laws, worksite safety and health regulations, Social Security, workers' unionization rights, and wage and hour standards.

In her 1934 novel, People, At Work, Frances denounced $6-per-week factory wages and the systematic devaluing of human life in the workforce.

We work to bring value back to the humans who make up our workforces.

The Employee Who Redirected Our Path

Although the journey started in 2008, the redirection began with her. If not for this employee, who showed our Founder the true consequences of a system that disregards workers, The Inside Track Career Services wouldn't exist.

She was the reminder that systems are for people, not the other way around.

We work so that dedicated professionals like her no longer have to bend their career goals to the will of a system.

I started The Inside Track Career Services because I was tired of seeing employees miss opportunities because they didn't understand employment ecosystems. Instead of silently disagreeing, I decided to do something about it. The Inside Track Career Services is here to help employees and their coaches understand how the system works and to equip them to operate the system for themselves.
